From:
Knutsford, Cheshire.
Learnt to ski:
First time on skis on a golf course in Aviemore at the age of 11. Then once a year with the family and school trips until the first season in Meribel in ’98.
Summer months:
I cycle as much as possible!! Also plastering, tree surgery and house renovations. I stick around the Meribel Valley and lice just down in Les Allues. Majorca is my first port of call after the season and don my lycra and swap out my ski kit!
Favourite piste/run:
Tougnete 2 area is amazing. Fast lifts which enables a quick turn round so in a morning you can ski tons! There’s blues/reds and blacks all in the area and the off-piste is fantastic. Always groomed up there too (dont tell anyone)
Favourite off-piste area:
Roc de Fer lift accesses loads of good off-piser skiing andis rarely affected by the sun so tends to stay more fluffy for longer. North facing is the key to the “aaaaaah” powder…..
Favourite lift:
Saulire Express. Almost a vertical mile in a little over 15 minutes in pure comfort. Super quick and comfy although on a cold day Legends chair gets it with those heated seats. It’s a game changer on a frosty morning.
Best view:
Top of La Masse. You can see over to the Southern Alps as well as Mont Blanc in teh other direction. It’s an amazing view and takes your breath away.
Mountain restaurant:
Cave de Creux. Take your wallet with you but on a snowy day with the fire roaring and desserts to write home about you’re in for a good time. Especially if the strolling band are kicking off!
Evening apres or dining spot:
Apres at the Ronny always wins. It is a one off and always delivers. Good music and a great place to blow the froth off. couple of cold ones. For an evening meal Le Cepe is unreal in Meribel. The cappucino soup is mega!
A must do experience:
Well you can’t leave town without having at least one fondue. The French know how to melt cheese!! But an off the radar experience is taking a pleasure flight. from the Courchevel altiport. Taking off and landing at one of the worlds most technically challenging runways is one to rememeber.
Simple piece of advice:
Get your skis serviced – it makes life a whole lot easier. Get boots that fit properly. A good snug fit will ensure you have better control over your skis.
Don’t leave home without:
Good quality sunscream. The sun is so strong at altitude and can frazzle you in no time. Panda eyes may have been cool in the 80’s….
