meribel summer activity

What do we do when the snow is all gone?

When the snow melts, Méribel and Courchevel don’t go to sleep—it simply swaps out the planks for walking boots, mountain bikes, road bikes, tennis rackets, golf clubs and our favourite…..the climbing harness.

Summer in the Alps is one of the region’s best-kept secrets. The mountains become quieter, the temperatures are perfect for getting outdoors, and suddenly there’s a whole new playground to explore. Whether you’re here with family, friends or simply escaping the heat, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Of course, there are the classics. Walking through alpine meadows, mountain biking, swimming in the lakes, enjoying a long lunch with spectacular views or taking the lifts up to discover panoramic hiking trails. It’s a completely different pace to winter, but just as rewarding.

If we had to highlight one activity to for  your list, though, it would be the Saulire Via Ferrata.

Now, this one definitely isn’t for everyone. If you’re uncomfortable with heights, there are plenty of other adventures to choose from. But if you enjoy a little adrenaline and don’t mind a bit of exposure, it’s an unforgettable experience.

The route follows the Saulire, high above Méribel, using a series of steel cables, ladders and fixed steps to help you climb safely across the rock face. You don’t need to be an experienced climber, but a reasonable level of fitness and a good head for heights are essential.

The reward? Incredible views across the Three Valleys, a real sense of achievement and a perspective of the mountains that very few visitors ever get to experience.

At Marmalade, we’re lucky enough to spend our lives in these mountains, and one of the best things about summer is seeing them from a completely different angle. Whether you’re here to relax, explore or push yourself a little outside your comfort zone, the Alps have a habit of leaving you wanting to come back for more.

Just don’t blame us if your summer holiday turns into an annual tradition.
