Mountain Safety and Avalanche Awareness
Learn to Read the Mountain, Not Just Ski It
There comes a point in every skier’s journey when you realise that skiing off-piste isn’t just about finding fresh snow—it’s about understanding the mountain you’re skiing on.
That’s exactly what our ANENA Mountain Safety & Avalanche Awareness Course in Méribel is designed to do.
At Marmalade Ski School, we believe that knowledge is just as important as technique. Whether you’re taking your first steps beyond the piste markers or you’ve already spent a few days skiing powder, understanding what’s happening beneath your skis will make every future adventure safer and more enjoyable.
This isn’t a classroom lecture. It’s a practical day in the mountains where you’ll learn how to use avalanche safety equipment correctly, including transceivers, probes and shovels. More importantly, you’ll understand why you’re using them. We’ll look at how avalanches form, how changing weather affects the snowpack, how to recognise different types of terrain, and how to make better decisions before committing to a line.
The course follows the recognised ANENA framework, giving you the foundations of mountain safety that every off-piste skier should have. You’ll leave with a far greater understanding of avalanche awareness, route planning and group management—skills that are just as valuable as learning to ski powder itself.
Our goal isn’t to turn you into an avalanche expert overnight. It’s to help you become a more informed, more confident and ultimately safer skier every time you head into the mountains.
If you’re planning to explore beyond the pistes in Méribel or anywhere else in the Alps, a Mountain Safety and Avalanche Awareness Course is one of the best investments you can make. Join Marmalade Ski School this winter and gain the knowledge that could make all the difference when the mountain asks the important questions.
